Boris Johnson called himself a Russophile at meeting with Sergei Lavrov

25.12.2017

mid.ruBritish Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson considers himself a Russophile. In his opinion, he even has Russian roots. The Foreign Secretary has also noted that he is the first person on this position to have a Russian name, IA Interfax reports.

Boris Johnson has paid an official visit to Moscow for the first time over the last years. He held talks with his counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

Russian Foreign Minister, in his turn, has noted that he trusts Johnson and can put the stress on the second syllable in his name to make it sound more Russian.

In his words, Moscow has never accused UK of anything. However, London has pronounced accusations and even made insulting statements addressed to our country. Sergei Lavrov has reminded that official representatives and British mass media called Russians occupants and aggressors. At the same time, Russia has never responded to the insults.

The head of Russian Diplomacy has added that it is necessary to discuss only facts. In the course of his talks with Boris Johnson, he added that they managed to reach some agreements and exchange facts, which was useful, especially when it came to key challenges of the international agenda. Besides, the parties discussed actual steps to stabilize the situation between the two countries. At present, the relations cannot be referred to as satisfactory.
