Sotheby's auction house has sold the Bay of Naples by Ivan Aivazovsky for almost three million dollars, which is more than two times the estimate. The canvas became the most expensive lot at a virtual auction of works of Russian painting, which ended on the eve of June 2. The total revenue of the auction exceeded seven million dollars, TASS reports.

The Passing Ship on a Moonlit Night created by Aivazovsky in 1868 was sold for over half a million dollars. The cost of the Harvest by Peter Konchalovsky exceeded 230 thousand dollars.

The auction of works of Russian decorative art is scheduled for June 9-17. Over 200 lots will be put up for auction, including the Faberge icon, porcelain products of the Imperial Porcelain Factory and much more.

The traditional "Russian" auction is held by Sotheby's twice a year. Last autumn, the total revenue from the auction amounted to more than 48 million dollars.

At the end of May, the auction of Russian art was organized by the London auction house Christie's.
