Pushkin's work and its influence on culture discussed in Istanbul

07.06.2022

The Istanbul Russian Center held an event for the residents of Turkey in honor of the Day of the Russian Language, which coincides with the birthday of Alexander Pushkin.

At the event, the participants learned about the life of the poet in Moscow, about his wife, studies at the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, watched slides depicting a living room and an office in a memorial apartment on the Arbat street, etc.

Pushkin's works influenced Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk. The image of Pushkin inspired artists and sculptors to create paintings and monuments.

There are monuments to Pushkin in almost every city in Russia and in many countries. In Istanbul, in 2009, a bust sculpture of the poet was unveiled on the territory of Okan University.

Pushkin's work enriched the musical culture of Russia. The Eugene Onegin, The Queen of Spades (Tchaikovsky), Boris Godunov (Mussorgsky), Mermaid (Dargomyzhsky), Ruslan and Lyudmila (Glinka) operas and many others are based on his works.
