More than a thousand books, including works by Russian classic writers and teaching aids, were handed over to four Washington Sunday schools. The ceremony took place at the Russian Cultural Center in Washington, school principals attended the event, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports.

Books and textbooks are intended for Russian compatriots, Russian teachers and Americans studying the Russian language.

School directors were grateful for a valuable gift and said that books would not only be in demand by schoolchildren but would also help Americans better understand Russian literature and culture.

A free summer school for Russian language teachers opened near Washington in July, 2019. Courses were organized by the American Councils for International Education.
