The Russia study club, which opened in one of Havana schools, has started classes in the Russian language. Maxim Gorki Foreign Language Institute and the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office initiated and organized the project, the agency’s website reports. The club operates at the Ruben Martinez Villena school. Earlier, there was a university that trained specialists in the Russian language.

The representative of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, Vladimir Yaroshevsky, gave schoolchildren textbooks and teaching aids for classes. He also spoke to the children about the country, Russian culture, history and traditions. The stories about the tradition of celebrating the New Year and Russia’s versatile nature were especially interesting to young Cubans.

The participants of the study club will have the opportunity to learn more about the life of modern Russians and the country's past. The students will get to master the basics of the Russian language. It is necessary for those students who will begin to learn the language next academic year. It is planned that Russian will be taught optionally at school.
