The UN, China and France supported the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold a summit among the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), including Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States, Gazeta.RU writes.

Putin made a speech at a forum dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust in Israel on Thursday, January 23. The Russian president noted that attempts to forget about the lessons of the past and disunity can lead to tragic results. He suggested discussing the preservation of historical memory, the fight against hatred and anti-Semitism at a high-level meeting.

The UN said that the organization approved of the desire for discussions between the heads of the Security Council member states. According to Deputy spokesman for the Secretary-General Farhan Hack, the UN encourages friendly relations between all members of the organization.

The French president Emmanuel Macron also supported the idea, as well as the Chinese authorities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China noted that the recent instability and uncertainty in international issues have become increasingly noticeable, and the UN is facing challenges.

London expects details from the Russian side regarding this proposal.

The head of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science and the chairman of the board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov recalled that “the 75th anniversary of not only the Great Victory, but also the UN, which opened on April 25, 1945 in San Francisco, is very close. The place, time and reason for the meeting of leaders of the victorious powers is obvious. And the whole world - except Poland - should and will celebrate the victory in Moscow,” the politician wrote on his Facebook page.
