Russian feature Serf breaks records at foreign box office

Klim Shipenko comedy Serf (Kholop in Russian) has earned more than a million dollars in the foreign box office. The feature showed the best results in Germany and Serbia. Serf was also watched by spectators from several countries of Europe, the Baltic States and Israel. The comedy already beats Hollywood features at the domestic box office and can potentially become the highest grossing Russian movie in history, TASS reports. 

Serf has become the most successful of all the Russian features screened in Germany and is now second most popular Russian movie in Serbia. 

Russian viewers watched Serf on the eve of the New Year holidays. At the end of December and January, more than nine and a half million viewers watched the comedy,  the film brought to its producers the overall sum of 42 million dollars.

Serf even broke the Russian market record of such Hollywood blockbusters as Avengers: Endgame and The Lion King.

The comedy tells about the representative of the "elite youth" who finds himself in a village of the 19th century, recreated at the request of his father, who wants to teach his son a lesson and save him.
