The Asian Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) has given the prizes for the best script and cinematography to the Russian feature Beanpole. The ceremony was held in Brisbane, the prestigious award was presented for the thirteenth time. The awards were not the first for Kantemir Balagov’s Oscar nominated film, TASS reports.

The jury members selected the best films from almost three hundred films, 127 films from 29 countries entered the extended list. Beanpole and two more Russian films, fiction and documentary, were in the short list of 37 works. Balagov's feature claimed victory in four categories, winning two of them.

Beanpole also claimed to receive the main APSA prize - awards for the best film, but the jury opted for the Korean film Parasites, which had previously been awarded the prize of the Cannes Film Festival. The main list also included films from China and India. The APSA Prize has been awarded since 2008 and is called the Asian Oscar.

Beanpole tells the story of two girls who returned home after World War II and try to find themselves in peaceful life. The action takes place in post-war Leningrad.
