8th International cultural forum opens in St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum kicks off on Thursday, November 14, RIA Novosti reports. Its main theme is Cultural Codes in a Globalizing World.

According to deputy prime minister Olga Golodets, today the issue of preserving cultural uniqueness and identity is acute. Nevertheless, openness to cooperation in international projects also remains an important issue on the cultural agenda.

The deputy head of government has no doubt that the forum, as in previous years, will become an effective platform for establishing new ties and strengthening existing contacts. Olga Golodets also believes that the forum will contribute to new discoveries and achievements of contemporary art.

Over the years of its existence, the forum has gained the status of a large-scale cultural event. It can be called unique by theme and number of guests. Annually, discussion platforms attract 35 thousand participants.

This year the business program of the forum brings together nearly a dozen sections. Each of them is devoted to one of the areas of cultural activity. Three thematic sections will work at the forum, each of them is a series of events united by one theme. This year they are dedicated to issues of culture and youth, culture and society. The third section is called Festival of Festivals.

Lectures, master classes, performances, exhibitions, film screenings are planned within the forum.

China will become the guest of the festival. A category of the special program has been introduced for the first time this year. It involves a broad representation of a country or organization. This year, Turkey and the Forum of Slavic Cultures received the corresponding status.

The forum participants will be joined by famous musicians, directors, actors, writers. Yuri Bashmet and Denis Matsuev, Theodoros Terzopoulos and Valery Fokin, Pavel Basinsky and Igor Butman. Are among them. Also, Mikhail Piotrovsky, Zelfira Tregulova, Vladimir Gusev and many others will come to the forum. The main site of the forum will again be the main building of the State Hermitage, and the business program will work in the Russian Ethnographic Museum.
