BRICS Summit Opens in Brazil

Vladimir Putin takes part in the two-day BRICS summit, which opens in Brazil, RIA Novosti reports. About seven hundred participants gathered at the summit. The program of the event includes several panel sessions on relevant areas of cooperation.

The Russian president will attend the closing ceremony of the business forum. In addition, the Russian leader is scheduled to meet with Indian and Chinese colleagues Nareandra Modi and Xi Jinping.

Putin and Modi last met in early fall. Their negotiations took place in the capital of Primorsky Krai as part of the Eastern Economic Forum. One of the main issues of interaction between the two countries is cooperation in the energy sector. Export of hydrocarbons from Russia to India is growing. Moscow and New Delhi are interested in joint LNG projects, the cooperation between Gazprom and Indian companies is very promising. Another important project is the construction of the Kudankulam NPP in India. Interaction with New Delhi is successfully developing in all areas, including in the field of space exploration.

Putin and Xi Jinping are going to exchange views on important issues of the international and regional agenda. According to the leaders of both countries, relations between Russia and China can be called a comprehensive equal trusting partnership and strategic interaction. This year, Moscow and Beijing celebrate the anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations. They were installed 70 years ago. In spring, the president visited Beijing, where he took part in One Belt, One Way forum. In early summer, Xi Jinping came to St. Petersburg for the economic forum.
