The Theater Baltic Festival opens on Friday, October 18, in the capital of Latvia. It is the second time that the House of Moscow has been accepting it. It is supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

The festival unites Russian-speaking theaters, professional and amateur, from the Baltic Sea countries. Teams from Latvia, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Russia, Lithuania are among them. Guests from Israel will also attend the festival. The forum is designed to strengthen friendship between peoples, develop the traditions of the Russian theater and increase the importance of the Russian language in the region.

This year's festival program is divided into two parts. One of them is intended for adults, and the second one is for a children's audience. This will provide an opportunity to attract a larger number of public and more fully present the creative possibilities of the participants in the competitive program. Pupils from schools with the Russian language of instruction, as well as from educational institutions where Russian is studied as a foreign language, will be invited to children's performances.

The genre diversity was not limited. In the selection of performances, however, productions based on Russian classical drama and literature had priority. A round table discussion entitled Russian Theater Outside Russia will also be held within the framework of the festival.

Russkiy Mir reported that last year 13 performances of various authors and genres were shown at the festival. The festival also included discussions and the conference entitled “Russian language and culture through the theater: the use of theatrical technologies in teaching RCTs".
