Russia has selected Kantemir Balagov's Dylda (Beanpole) feature as its submission for the best international feature film category at the 2020 Oscars. The film tells the dramatic story of women struggling to survive in the aftermath of World War 2. As we reported before, the Balagov's feature has already won the Un Certain Regard best director prize at Cannes this year.

After the Soviet Union collapse in 1991 Beanpole is Russia's 27th submission for the Oscar award in the international feature category. Nikita Mikhalkov's Burnt by the Sun won an Academy Award in 1994. The most recent nomination was earned last year by Loveless by Andrey Zvyagintsev.

The 92nd Academy Awards are set to take place Feb. 9, 2020.
