Russian Corner opened in National Library of Mauritius

More than two hundred volumes of classics of Russian literature, as well as books on the history and art of Russia, were donated by the Ambassador of Russia to the Republic of Mauritius Konstantin Klimovsky to the fund of the National Library of Mauritius, in which a “Russian corner” will soon be opened. The Minister of Arts and Culture of Mauritius Prithvirajsing Roopun was also present when the books were handed to the library, Compatriots in the Republic of Mauritius Facebook group writes.

The Russian embassy replenished the funds of the main library of the Republic of Mauritius with the publications of Alexander Pushkin, Nikolai Gogol, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Ivan Turgenev, Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov and other Russian classic writers, known to readers around the world.

Among the books were encyclopedias and albums on the history of Russia and Russian art. In addition, the works of Soviet writers and books for children are also present in the “Russian corner”. The leadership of the National Library expressed the hope that the Russian book collection would be replenished.

The ceremony was attended by members of a number of diplomatic missions, scientists and cultural figures of Mauritius, Russian compatriots living in Mauritius, representatives of the Association of Mauritian Alumni of Soviet and Russian Universities and other organizations.

Russian songs and poems by Pushkin were performed translations into different languages during a small concert dedicated to the event.
