BRICS Academic Forum kicks off in Brasilia

On September 11, the 11th BRICS Academic Forum began its work in Brasilia, BRICS National Research committee reports. The forum was organized by the national coordinator of Brazil, the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), the country's leading expert and analytical center that oversees research in the area of ​​developing interaction and cooperation among the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of Brazil. Russia is traditionally represented by the BRICS National Research Committee, established by the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Chairman of the Committee on Education of the State Duma, Chairman of the Management Board of Russkiy Mir Foundation and BRICS National Research committee Vyacheslav Nikonov spoke at the opening ceremony of the forum.


In his welcoming speech, Nikonov reminded the forum participants of the historical ties and traditional values ​​that united the BRICS countries. “We are together not only because we are stronger together,” he said, “not only because BRICS gives us the tools for development ... but also because we make up a community with common values. Western values ​​are not bad - no one will object to democracy and human rights, but we have some values ​​that are more traditional for our countries.” The political scientist included the desire for justice, self-esteem and dignity, respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, a mood for dialogue, understanding of the diversity of the world, respect for each other and several others into them.

According to Nikonov, thanks to many years of joint work and common values, the BRICS countries are already changing the world for the better, introducing a new type of interaction into it, which in the future should become a model for cooperation of all mankind.
