The All-Russian Candle of Memory campaign has started in Moscow. The action is timed to the Day of Memory and Grief, which is celebrated on June 22, the day of the start of the Great Patriotic War.

Veterans of the war, services and units of the Russian Guard, military personnel, members of the public and students of the Moscow Presidential Cadet School named after Sholokhov lit more than a hundred candles in memory of the defenders of the Fatherland who died in the war with the Nazis in the park near the monument to the Soldiers of Internal Troops, Rossiskaya gazeta reports . The head of Rosgvardia, Viktor Zolotov, noted that today's defenders of the Fatherland sacredly commemorated the heroes of those tragic years and carefully preserve the historical truth. It is the edification to the descendants of the fragility of the world.

On the night of June 21-22, soldiers of the Russian army, representatives of public organizations, volunteers, students, and veterans will come to the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Hill. Participants in the action will light 1,418 candles from the Eternal Flame as a token of memory of each day of the war. The image of 1,418 candles will be also projected at the museum at midnight. A large light and sound installation will be accompanied by the performance of the ensemble of the Russian Guard and other artists who will perform songs of the war years. Everyone is welcomed to see the event live.

The action is traditionally supported by museums that are part of the large-scale project Territory of Victory - at midnight local time Candles of memory will be lit in many cities of Russia.

The next day, the Candle of Memory will be installed in the Hall of Grief in front of representatives of the government, politicians, deputies, scientists and public figures.

Candle of memory will light up in other countries. In particular, the action will be held in the US capital, at the memorial to the heroes of the Second World War. The Embassy of the Russian Federation invites everyone to join it.
