It is to be hoped that Volodymyr Zelensky will be able to resolve the situation with discrimination of linguistic and national minorities in Ukraine, Alexander Lukashevich, the Russian permanent representative to the OSCE said. According to him, the new Ukrainian leader needs political will, RIA Novosti reports. At the council meeting of the OSCE, Lukashevich recalled that the law on the state language contradicted national legislation, the Ukrainian Constitution and international obligations of Kiev even with the submitted amendments.

The diplomat underlined that the law did not meet European standards. Lukashevich appealed to the leadership of the OSCE and the participating countries to give a public assessment of the legislative steps of Kiev.

“We expect a balanced line in relation to all categories of citizens of Ukraine without discrimination on ethnic, linguistic, cultural or religious grounds,” Russian representative summed up.

Moscow believes the law on language contradicts the Minsk agreements, which were approved by the UN Security Council. Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, called the adoption of the law a "linguistic inquisition."

Russia’s MFA has no doubt that the law will make the prospects for a peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas even more obscure and will lead to its aggravation. There is a forced Ukrainization of the country, which is contrary to Ukrainian laws, the Constitution and international
obligations, the ministry is confident.

Russkiy Mir reported that the law increasing pressure on those who speak Russian and on representatives of other national minorities will soon come into power in Ukraine.

Some indulgences are provided for European and Crimean-Tatar languages, which speaks of double discrimination of the Russian language and increases the conflict within the country.
