The last bell rang in Russian schools on Thursday, May 23, RIA Novosti reports. Traditionally, graduates say goodbye to their educational institutions during this beautiful and touching ceremony.

Actions are held for school children, their parents and teachers. One of the most memorable symbols of this holiday is young first-graders, who are held on the shoulders of graduates, ringing the bell.

Russian Ministry of Education has previously explained that about 650 thousand people are finishing school in Russia this year. The number of ninth grade students reaches almost one and a half million people.

The last bell gives a start to a new, one of the most crucial periods in life. Graduates await the time of the Unified State Exam. The first exam is scheduled for May 27. The main stage of passing the exam will end on July 1.
