There are no Russian citizens among the victims of the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka, RIA Novosti reports. The Embassy of the Russian Federation assured that they are in constant contact with the authorities and law enforcement agencies and are ready to provide all necessary assistance to compatriots.

Eight explosions thundered in Sri Lanka on the eve of April 21, when Catholics celebrated Easter. Explosive devices worked in temples and hotels in Colombo, Negombo, Batticaloa and Dehiwala. Eighth explosion occurred in a residential complex in the suburbs of the capital. Another bomb was discovered and defused on the road leading to the international airport. The attack was aimed at local Christians.

The death toll has now reached 290 people. Among them are citizens of Denmark, China, Japan, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries. About 500 people were injured of varying severity.

Russian Foreign Ministry expressed outrage at the inhuman attack of terrorists, which is not and cannot be justified. This tragedy proves once again that the international community needs to unite efforts to combat terrorism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.

M expressed sincere condolences to the relatives of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent a letter of condolence to his colleague Maithripala Sirisena.
