Russian President Vladimir Putin and his colleague from Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, discussed the situation of the Russian-speaking minority in the Baltic republics. According to the press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, there is some flexibility on the part of Tallinn, RIA Novosti reports.

He assured that the protection of the rights of the Russian-speaking population, not only in Estonia, but also in Latvia and Lithuania, remained an extremely important topic for Moscow, as well as the unresolved problem of non-citizens. The meeting of the heads of state was held on Thursday, April 18, during the visit of Kersti Kaluland to Moscow.

Earlier, the Kremlin noted that the policy of Tallinn is aimed at ousting the Russian language, reducing the space of Russian-language education, submitting this question under the pretext of creating a “single school” where education would be conducted in the state language.

In addition, Moscow points out that there are cases of the glorification of Nazism that in Estonia.

At the same time, Moscow and Tallinn are discussing joint projects. The celebration of the bicentenary of the discovery of Antarctica and the centenary anniversary of the singer George Ots are among them. They will be celebrated next year. The discoverer of Antarctica, the famous Russian traveler Thaddeus Bellingshausen, was born on the Estonian island of Saaremaa.

Cultural contacts are actively developing between the two countries, but the sanctioned opposition negatively affects the trade and economic ties between Tallinn and Moscow.
