Festival of Russian-language theaters starts in Cyprus

Theaters from Russia, Georgia and Ukraine will take part in Five Evenings in Cyprus international festival. The performances will take place in 4 largest cities of Cyprus from February 20 to 24. Famous Russian actor, Head of the Union of Theatrical Figures of Russia Alexander Kalyagin will hold the opening ceremony, the website of the Association of Russian Theatrical Figures Abroad reports. The festival has already been held twice and attracted the attention of residents of Cyprus.

Rescue Cadet Pushkin play by Moscow School of Modern Play will open the festival. On the second day, popular Russian actor Dmitri Dyuzhev will present Eugene Onegin one-man show. In addition, Theater on Sobornaya from Ryazan will play Gogol's Christmas. The Steadfast Tin Soldier fairytale performed by Moscow Children's Puppet Theater, which marks the appearance of program for children, will close festival’s program. 

Theaters from former Soviet Union republics will also present performances of Russian classics. Odessa Theater on Chaynya will show a play based on Ivan Bunin's Natalie, and Tbilisi Russian Drama Theater brought an interpretation of A Gentle Creature by Dostoevsky to Cyprus. 

The festival is held by the Island Russian theater in Cyprus, Magic World of Theater company, Rialto Theater in Limassol, CLC Cyprus Women's Association. According to the organizers, one of the main goals of the event is the gathering of Russian-speaking residents of Cyprus. 

Russian theaters perform regularly in Cyprus. Russkiy Mir reported on the opening of Russian Theater Seasons in the autumn of 2018. It will last three years, and the residents of island will see performances of theaters from Moscow and Russian regions.
