Polish reacted to death of Gdansk mayor Pawel Adamowicz by silent rallys against the violence all over the country. Adamowicz became a victim of a knife attack of local resident. This accident triggered the whole world, and many people in Gdansk were wishing to donate blood to save Pawel Adamowicz, but medicine was powerless.

For many years, Adamowicz has consistently advocated for friendship with Russia and a good neighborliness with Kaliningrad district. Russkaya Gazeta informs.

The tragedy happened at the benefit concert on January 13. Gdansk local, who has been jailed for armed robbery before, ran on the stage and inflicted Pawel Adamowicz three stab wounds in his heart, stomach and arm. The killer explained his actions as a revenge to the Civic Platform opposition party, which included the mayor of Gdansk.

Russia knew him as one of the major policymakers, who advocated the rapprochement of Russian and Polish peoples. He was convinced that countries and peoples should interact, had a blog in Russian, gave interviews to Russian media, and was proud of studying Russian in his youth. Adamowicz was opposed to the termination of special border regime with Kaliningrad district. In his view, it caused losses to Polish entrepreneurs, and made the communication between Russians and Polish more difficult.

In times of the destruction of monuments to Soviet soldiers in different Polish cities, Adamowicz supported the annual actions of laying flowers to the graves of Red Army’s soldiers and officers, who died in the battles for the liberation of Gdansk  rom fascists.
