Pre-trial investigation of Vyshinsky’s case finished in Ukraine

Law enforcement of Ukraine has finished the pre-trial investigation of the case of the journalist Kirill Vyshinsky, who has been jailed on trumped-up suspicion. Prosecutors enabled his lawyer to review the content of case, RIA Novosti reports.

New session of the court to consider the issue of the selection of a preventive measure for Vyshinsky will take place in two days.

According to Kirill Vyshinsky’s lawyer Andrey Domansky, he intends to  file a request for a preventive measure other than remand in custody. The term of his arrest ends on January 27.

The foreign affairs department of Russia noted earlier, that Moscow does not discuss the issue about the journalist’s exchange for the Ukrainian citizens arrested in Russia.Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Ivanov explained that the embassy is taking every possible measure to protect Vyshinsky. Meanwhile, Kiev  continues to deny the consular access to the detainee.

Russkiy Mir reported that Russia’s MFA had repeatedly demanded that the Ukrainian authorities immediately released the editor of the RIA Novosti - Ukraine portal. This issue was discussed at a meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with OSCE’s Secretary General, Thomas Greming. He, in turn, confirmed the OSCE’s was concerned about the arrest of the journalist.

Arlem Desir, who is the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, called on Ukraine to release Vyshinsky, but his appeal remained unheard.
