Sergey Lavrov: OSCE follows double standards and needs to be reformed

The OSCE Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs rejected the ways to resolve important international issues proposed by Moscow. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov believes that the only reason for this is that they were offered by Russia, TASS reports.

According to him, it is troubling that the situation in the OSCE area gets more and more unhealthy. This includes the escalation of military and political tensions. The governments of Western countries resort to arguments from the times of the Cold War, their ideological bias hinders the collective work on eliminating existing rather than imaginary threats. NATO countries stick to containment policy towards Russia, build up military activity near our borders and carry on with baseless accusations instead of real diplomacy.

The humanitarian part of the OSCE’s activities faces a deep crisis and needs to be reformed and cleared of distortions and double standards, Lavrov stresses.

The Foreign Minister also noted that Moscow regrets that the OSCE Ministerial Meeting once again failed to approve a political declaration. However, the conversation turned out to be useful, he notes.

The minister advised the West to seek the implementation of the Minsk agreements from Kiev instead of making baseless accusations against Russia. The West has created a kind of ritual of returning to Ukrainian topics during non-related discussions.  At the same time, Moscow does not give up on discussions and once again offers to send all the claims to the Ukrainian authorities.
