Russian avant-garde pieces from the Tretyakov Gallery collection to be exhibited in the largest art center in Doha. The guests will have the chance to follow the history of world-famous Russian avant-garde from its birth to the echoes it left in the works of Russian artists of a later time, the website of Russia’s Ministry of Culture reports.

The Russian Avant-garde: Pioneers and Direct Descendants exhibition is a part of a large program of the bilateral Year of Culture of Russia and Qatar. The Arab state considered the arrival of dozens of paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery an event of national importance. The opening ceremony was attended by Qatar’s Minister of Culture Salah Ben Gan Al Ali, the Ambassador of Russia in Qatar Nurmahmad Khokhlov and the head of the Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova.

The exhibition boasts the paintings of the world avant-garde stars Vladimir Tatlin and Alexander Rodchenko but one of the main goals of the organizers was to show the works of their contemporaries pushed away by the glory of Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Rodchenko and other outstanding Russian artists. The exhibition presents the works by Vladimir Tatlin, Alexander Rodchenko, Mikhail Matyushin, Mikhail Plaksin, Ivan Kliun – painters who determined the features of this movement at the beginning of the 20th century.

The masters of the second wave of the Russian avant-garde, the very "direct descendants" who worked at the second half of the 20th century, will also be exhibited in Doha. Their names won world fame only in the 1980s.

Dozens of events took place in Doha and other cities of the country as part of the Year of Russia and Qatar. The concert of the Sretensky Monastery, the exhibition of the finalists of The Most Beautiful Country contest and the festival of classic Soviet cinema were among the most brightest ones.

Russkiy Mir reported earlier that Year of Culture to have opened with a big concert of Igor Moiseyev Ballet ensemble. This the first bilateral Year for Russia and Qatar.
