Europe should pay close attention to the current situation with the Russian language in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says.  The minister made the statement during a speech at the OSCE’s Council of Foreign Ministers member countries, TASS reports.

According to him, it is necessary for the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities to intervene. Legislative activity of the Ukrainian authorities will cause all languages except Ukrainian to disappear from all spheres of life, the minister noted. At the same time Kiev promises to make some indulgences for European languages. It clearly demonstrates that this policy aims at to discriminate the Russian language. Kiev is convinced that it will be better if the Russian language is destroyed, thinks Lavrov. The authorities do not pay any attention to the fact that it is in Russian that most of the Ukrainian population speaks.

Sergey Lavrov expressed the hope that Brussels had caught on this plan, which contradicts the provisions of international law and the country's constitution.

The Foreign Minister noted that Western advisors turn a blind eye to all the tricks of Kiev regime by forgiving and even finding excuses for the actions of the Ukrainian authorities. This fully applies to the provocations in the Kerch Strait and the actions of the Ukrainian security forces in the Donbass.

"There is an ongoing attack on freedom of the media, linguistic, educational religious rights" in the modern world, noted the minister. Riga and Tallinn retain the lamentable phenomenon of statelessness while Latvia’s glorification of Nazism found its expression in ugly forms.
