The Russian Center has been opened in Presov University (Slovakia) on November 20, 2018. The Russian Ambassador to Slovakia A. L. Fedotov, the rector of the University of Presov P. Kony and the executive director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation V. V. Kochin attended the ceremony. The opening of the Russian Center aroused great interest among professors, teachers and students of the university.
P. Konya spoke about the history and current state of Russian studies at Presov University and voiced his support for the future activities of the Russian Center.
The University teaches Russian language for more than 60 years. Today, the Institute of Russian Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Presov prepares translators, teachers and specialist in Russian language and culture. The university has been cooperating with the Russkiy Mir Foundation for several years. It won grants from the foundation, and in September 2018 his team took part in the student festival called Friends, our union is beautiful! In Kamchia (Bulgaria).
Congratulating professors, teachers and students of the university on the opening of the Russian Center, V.V. Kochin noted that the Presov Russian School is known far beyond Slovakia, and the opening of the Russian Center here was an honor for the Russkiy Mir Foundation. “The opening of the center is the beginning of a big teamwork, the result of which should be new opportunities for learning the Russian language and Russia”, the executive director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation said.
In his turn, A. L. Fedotov told about preparations for the Russian Center opening. Drawing attention to the growing interest in the Russian language in Slovakia, he noted that a language was often compared to a key to understanding the national culture, and the Russian Center is the door through which students, teachers and everyone can access the rich Russian language, literature, culture and history of Russia.
Studying Russian in Slovakia is gaining popularity. At school, it is taught from the fifth grade, and now an increasing number of students choose Russian as the second foreign language. Russian competes with German, the second popular one after English. According to some data, Russian is even ahead of German. Many graduates of schools come to Presov University where they continue study the language profoundly because all lectures to slavists are in Russian.
The organization in Presov is the 113th Russian Center for study of the Russian language and culture in Russia. Russkiy Mir Foundation launches these projects all over the world. Very soon on November 23 another Russian center will start working, it will be opened in Bulgarian Stara Zagora.
