12th Russian World Assembly took place in Tver city

05.11.2018

The 12th Russian World Assembly gathered more than 600 participants from 69 countries as well as from 33 cities of Russia. Tver is an ancient town is the heart of Russia. The river Volga has its source there. Today it is a large industrial, transport and scientific center.

The folk choir of the Tver Mussorgsky Musical College, greeted members and guests of the event with a Russian folk song.

Chairman of the Management Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation and Chairman of the Committee on Education of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Nikonov took the floor at the Tver Academic Drama Theater.

Addressing the participants and guests of the Assembly he said that it was a great honor and pleasure for him to stand on this stage and greet the wide Russian world presented here by people from so many countries who have overcome a long way to this wonderful city. Meanwhile, he reminded that the local drama theater is older than the United States of America, this caused laugh and applauds in the audience.

The veterans of the Russian World Assemblies remember that for all these years a faithful colleague accompanied Vyacheslav Nikonov - the Board of Trustees Chairperson of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Ludmila Verbitskaya.  Vyacheslav Nikonov said, Lyudmila Alekseevna feels unwell but sends warm greetings and words of appreciation to all participants. “And we all wish her to recover soon!” Vyacheslav Nikonov added. Everyone supported his words with friendly applauds.

Then, the Russkiy Mir Foundation Chairman of the Board spoke on the history of the Tver region. He recalled that this city was older than Moscow, it kept glorious historical and cultural traditions. This was the land of Michael of Tver (Prince of Tver). Tver merchant Afanasy Nikitin was one of the first Europeans who visited India. Admiral Kornilov who was born there defended Sevastopol.

“Today, we all will miss a Tver resident, Andrei Dementiev, who has repeatedly visited the Russian world Assemblies,” Vyacheslav Nikonov added.

Covering the work of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, Vyacheslav Nikonov noticed that one cannot say better than Vladimir Putin. On October 31, speaking at the VI World Congress of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad, the Russian President praised the work of the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

“This is the assessment of the tremendous work that each of you performs in your countries. This is the president’s gratitude to all of you”, Vyacheslav Nikonov claimed.

Speaking on the period since the previous Russian World Assembly, Vyacheslav Nikonov noted that the past year was difficult for the Russian world. “The fact is that colossal efforts are aimed at crushing, weakening and destroying the Russian world, destroying the Russian soul. The attempts to provide autocephaly in Ukraine is an effort to vanish the Russian world soul,” Vyacheslav Nikonov said.

He added that the Russian world had never shown aggression and hatred, on the contrary, it was the self-perception of people who belonged to the highest culture. It was the universality of Russian culture that became the slogan of the current Russian World Assembly.

“I am sure that no one will break and intimidate the Russian world. Mainly it is true grace to its universality, which is clearly visible here in this hall - on the people’s  faces,” Vyacheslav Nikonov maintained.

At the end of his speech, Vyacheslav Nikonov noted that the Russian world is huge and multilingual. It is especially remarkable on such a holiday as the Day of National Unity. The head of the board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation congratulated everyone on the holiday and wished them strength in defending the interests of the Russian world. Then he launched the 12th Assembly of the Russian World.
