The first above Arctic Circle Russkiy Mir library room opens in Tromso

Russkiy Mir library room has opened in Norway town of Tromso on October 24. The Russkiy Mir Foundation, the Russian Embassy in Norway and the Norwegian Center for Foreign Languages ​​at Kongsbakken Upper Secondary School supported it.


This is the second Russkiy Mir library room opened in Norway this month and the first one beyond the Arctic Circle. The first room was opened on October 24 in Oslo in the oldest school in Norway.


During the opening ceremony, the Rector of Kongsbakken Upper Secondary School Kjell Olav Mentzoni and the Education Minister of the Troms county mr. Sollid spoke on the importance of learning Russian in the Norway Arctic region for the education system and cooperation of states in the Arctic. The Minister of Education and all the speakers emphasized the traditionally friendly relations that tie the peoples of the countries for many years.


Director of the Saint Petersburg branch of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Oleg Mukovsky and member of the Arctic Council Secretariat, Russian Embassy employee in Norway I. Tarysheva told about the Russkiy Mir Foundation’s Russian centers and library rooms program and plans for long-term cooperation in studying Russian language and culture.

Director of the Center for Foreign Languages ​​Steinar Nubile and Russian language teacher working in the center E. Kristiyan told in detail about the Russian as a foreign language role in the school and university education system of the country. Students of the Norwegian-Russian school in Murmansk (Kongsbakken Upper Secondary School department) prepared a vivid presentation of their training center and students of the school in Tromso told about their personal motivation to learn Russian.


The ceremony ended with a practical discussion of the possibilities for cooperation between the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the Kongsbaken School, the Norwegian Center for Foreign Languages ​​and the province of Troms in the field of learning and promoting the Russian language.
