ROCOR supports Moscow Patriarchate to break off relations with Constantinople

19.10.2018

Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) is supporting Moscow Patriarchate position in breaking up relations with  Patriarchate of Constantinople, TASS informs.

ROCOR calls Constantinople actions “illegal.” According to ROCOR Hierarchy, these actions don't have any excuse from canonical point of the view, unprecedented and dangerous injustice towards the Russian Orthodox traditions, flagrant disregard to spiritual assets of the Christ congregation.”

As Russkiy Mir reported, ROCOR has declared last week that by sending their envoys to the canonical territory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Patriarchate of Constantinople made an unprecedented invasion on the territory with its own local church responsible for the Orthodox believers in this country.

Meanwhile, the recovery of canonical status of schisms is named even more serious deed. Constantinople “arbitrarily has decided to take non-existent responsibility, thus justifying its attempts to interfere in affairs of other local churches,” summarized the ROCOR Synod.

The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia has concluded that it has “no choice other than to agree  with great sadness but with full confidence with ROC Synod decision to terminate Eucharistic communion with the Church of Constantinople.”
