Russians bring candles and flowers mourning victims of Crimea college shooting

One of the people wounded during the explosion and shooting at Kerch has died in hospital. The death toll has reached twenty people. Condolences to the families of the dead and injured come from all over the country, Zvezda TV channel reports. A prayer service for the victims is held in the city, the funerals are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

According to preliminary data, a conflict between Vladislav Roslyakov who committed the attack and teachers could be a motive of the incident, Interfax news agency reports. A version that the young man could participate in extremist groups is not confirmed so far.

Residents of the Russian capital bring flowers and candles on the monument to the hero-city of Kerch in the Alexander Garden. Ostankino tower turned off the lights as sign of mourning.

Memorials were created in almost all regions of the country. Russian diplomatic missions opened the book of memory. Foreigners and compatriots come there to leave words of support and condolences to the families and friends of the tragedy victims.

Kerch residents lay flowers at the building of the Polytechnic College where the tragedy occurred. According to Russian Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova, there are more than 40 people in the city’s hospitals. Their injuries vary in their degree of severity. Mostly they have penetrating injuries and fractures. The minister added that the doctors were able to stabilize the condition of teenagers whose health caused the greatest concern.

Ten people, including two adults and eight minors, will be airlifted to the major medical centers. The Center for Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology, Burdenko Neurosurgery Institute and the Vishnevsky Institute of Surger will take them.

Psychological assistance is provided to relatives and friends of the victims.

Most regions of the country offer assistance to the city. Kuzbass head Sergey Tsivilov expressed condolences. He recalled that the region is familiar with the mass death of innocent people.

The governors of Central Russia, the Volga region, the Russian North offer the necessary help to Crimea and wish the victims to recover fast.

Leaders and representatives of the Czech Republic, Canada, Venezuela, Germany, Italy, Belarus, Egypt etc. as well as UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteresh sent condolences and words of support.

According to Russkiy Mir, on October 17 improvised explosive device filled with "metal objects" detonated at the Kerch Polytechnic College. Twenty people were killed, more than 50 got injures of varying degrees of severity. Most of them are teenagers.
