Russian center opened in Greece

The Department of Languages, Literature and Culture of the countries along the Black Sea at the Democritus Thrace University has conducted the opening ceremony of the Center for Russian Language and Russian Culture on October 9 in the Greek town of Komotini. This is the second Russian center in Greece. The Russkiy Mir Foundation opened the first one in Thessaloniki in 2009.

A delegation from Russia headed by Executive Director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vladimir Kochin arrived at the opening ceremony of the center. Before the ceremony he had had a meeting with University Rector Alexandros Polychronidis who was very pleased to develop relations with the Russkiy Mir Foundation.


The Russian center opening was held in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Representatives of Russia and Greece as well as students learning Russian addressed with opening speeches.

Alexandros Polichronidis, rector of the Democritus Thrace University, congratulated on the opening of the Russian Center and thanked the Russkiy Mir Foundation for its creation.

Russian Consul General in Thessaloniki Alexander Shcherbakov noted that relations between Russia and Greece in the field of science and culture were strengthening. He stressed that the creation of a new center for learning Russian will allow the two countries to exchange experiences and develop relations in education realm.


Executive Director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vladimir Kochin expressed the hope that the creation of the Center of Russian Language and Russian Culture would bring the relations between the two countries to a new level in the sphere of science and culture. He wished successful cooperation to teachers and students from Russia and Greece, noted the high level of proficiency in Russian language and praised the university students for their active participation in festivals and forums devoted to the Russian language, literature, culture and translation.
