A research competition on the role of the Russian Empire in the US establishment as a state has been launched, the Russian embassy in Washington reports on its Facebook. The Russian Historical Society and Saint Petersburg State University organize the event.

The contest is mainly aimed at popularization of the history of the relations development between the two countries during the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War.

In addition, participation in the competition will help young historians who study the interaction of the two countries in the 17-18th centuries.

It will also help to expand the number of sources that confirm the contribution of the Russian Empire to the creation and strengthening of the sovereignty of the United States of North America.

Russian and foreign students and young scientists engaged in this topic are invited to participate.

The competition is held in two stages. First, the participants will provide free access to their work. They will be estimated by an expert council which includes the most authoritative scientists.

The second stage will be a conference where contestants will have to present their work. It will be held in Saint Petersburg.

Applications will be accepted on October 24. Works in Russian and English should be sent until March 11, 2019.
