The fundraising for Russian soldiers monument captured during the Northern War has almost finished, the Russian Societies Union in Sweden reports. The War was conducted 300 years ago.

The initiators of the action are the Russian-Swedish cultural association titled Smalland Friendship and the perish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Sweden. The monument will appear on the Visingso islands located on Lake Vattern.

During a research Russian and Sweden scientists found a list of more than 130 war prisoners buried in the fraternal cemetery on Visingso. The graves are dated back to 1715 - 1718. The collected funds will be spent for slabs with all the known names carved.

Organizers note that donations are sent not only by those people who are in the Russian cultural field, but also by local residents. There are also Sweden volunteers who help in fundraising.

Russian compatriots assure that joint activities will help improve relations between Russia and Sweden at the level of human relations. During the project the cooperation between Russian compatriots organizations strengthened.

Two thirds of the required amount of money have been already collected. At the beginning of the month, the final stage of the fundraising campaign began.

The concept of the monument is elaborated, its sketch is ready and permission from the Jonkoping city authorities is received. The opening of the monument is planned in May 2019.
