The World Russian Unity Day is celebrated on September 21, SM News reports. Despite the fact that the holiday does not have official status, representatives of the Russian diaspora and those who like Russian culture in many states abroad organize various events on this day. Now more than twenty countries celebrate it.
As Russkiy Mir reported, the Russian Union of Compatriots in Kyrgyzstan initiated this holiday. Eight years ago the organization invited participants of the 2nd International Youth Forum in St. Petersburg to sign the Declaration proclaiming the holiday. Representatives of more than 20 countries that participated in the event supported it.
As a symbol of the holiday its founders chose a birch that is associated with Russian culture and nature.
According to the holiday initiators, it promotes the popularization of the Russian people identity. In addition, it gives an opportunity to pay attention to the country's history.
The holiday is mainly aimed at the preservation of historical and cultural values, the development of language, literature, modern science and technology achievements.
