Washington has no intention to impose sanctions on companies involved into the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, Interfax news agency reports. The US President Donald Trump says the US authorities do not consider this possibility.
According to some Western mass media, Trump stated this during the negotiations with Polish President Andrzej Duda.
Trump expressed regret that Germany had to pay Russia many billions of dollars for gas. He felt sorry for the Germans and added that he certainly knew that they did not like this situation. The US president noted that no country in the world should depend on a single energy supplier. He has already mentioned this criticizing Berlin for buying Russian gas.
As Russkiy Mir reported, the next package of anti-Russian sanctions came into force a year ago. In fact, it prohibits US financial institutions to give loans to Russian banks. It forbids US companies to cooperate with Russia on the Nord Stream-2. The heads of several European countries such as Germany and Austria opposed the new sanctions introduction, but the US authorities did not take into account their opinion on the issue.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is confident that the new sanctions are nothing more than a US attempt to squeeze our country out of the European energy market.
