Children from 20 countries will take part in a topical session dedicated to the Russian language in Artek children’s camp, which will start on August 7 with participation of children studying the Russian language as foreign and young compatriots living abroad, according to the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute website.

Participants had to go through a contest selection round in order to get invitation to the camp. More than 60 teams from 32 countries of the world sent their contest works. Among the participants are schoolchildren from 11 to 17 years of age from France, South Korea, China, Belarus, Germany, Syria, the US, Canada and many others.

They were offered to present their team and record a video of reading the verses in the Russian language or telling a story about prominent Russians outside of our country.

The organizers were glad that many teams decided to do all the assignments.

As per a jury member, the dean of the preparation faculty Natalia Tatarina, videos of the children speaking Russian drew most of the attention. We were glad to see that these were not ready patterns of speech, but very sincere words. Some children sent stagings of Pushkin’s fairytales and a scene from Tale About Fedot the Archer by L. Filatov.

Despite, the Russian language is foreign for the majority of children, the contest participants demonstrated full breadth of their knowledge.

The assignment concerning the Russian heritage abroad was very interesting too. Some teams chose to tell stories about contemporary figures of culture and science instead of people from the past.

Eventually 150 people were selected to go to Artek.
