Candle of Memory to be lit in Russia and abroad on the eve of WW2 beginning

All-Russian campaign titled The Candle of Memory to be held on the eve of the Day of Memory and Sorrow. It is to be held in all heroic cities of military glory. People from other towns are to join the campaign in order to honor the memory of those who defended the Motherland from the Fascism during WW2, TASS reports.

The Candle of Memory will be lit in Russia along with more than 20 countries of the world including Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Montenegro, Bulgaria and others.

The campaign is to start at the Yelokhovo Cathedral in Moscow. A memorial service is scheduled there. The cathedral will light the main candle of memory and candles of all the Peoples of the Soviet Union. The fire was brought from Klim, the Moscow line of defense.

The Memory Line to consist of 1 418 candles equaling the number of war days will be lit at the Crimean embankment in the evening.  Main activities will be held in the Memory and Sorrow Hall of the Victory Museum at the Poklonnaya Hill. The central memory candle will b1e placed there to distribute flame to the people to light their candles from it.

Everybody could take part in the people’s flash mob called The Candle of Memory. Online.  To do this, people should come to the monuments or memorials in own cities or put a lit candle on the window at 9 p.m. local time and publish the picture or video with hashtag #CandleofMemory and the name of the city. Around 2 million of such records were posted online last year.
