Putin mentioned importance of working with International Monetary Fund at meeting with Lagarde

Russian President Vladimir Putin has met the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde during St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, according to RIA Novosti.

The President has mentioned that the presentation of Lagarde at the forum as well as at other major international events is extremely important. He has assured that Russia is thrilled to get evaluations and broadcasts from the International Monetary Fund. 

“The Fund which you are heading plays an important role in sustaining global stability in the field of economics and finances. Russia as a member of this fund is very interested in raising efficiency of its work;” Putin said.

Christine Lagarde, in her turn, has mentioned that she has always liked to visit the native town of the Russian President. She has also shared that she was able to walk around the dressed St. Petersburg and visit cathedrals of the city and the State Hermitage. Christine Lagarde called this walk amazing. 

Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Oreshkin met the Head of the International Monetary Fund yesterday’s afternoon. They discussed issues of the economic growth in the world and in Russia, in particular. Oreshkin has remarked that last year’s figures were unnaturally high. In his opinion, some developing countries which demonstrated growth last year, alrady experience serious economic risks and budget deficit of the current accounts. At this, even well-developed economies have their own risks. Minister has noted that macroeconomics of Russia is built the way in order to protect itself from these negative trends.
