Days of Russian Culture started in Latvia

Days of Russian Culture started in Latvia. The program includes more than 150 events in three cities: Riga, Daugavpils, Rezekne, reports the Foundation of Culture Development website.

The very first Russian festival took place in 1925, and was organised every year until 1940s. The tradition was revived only back in 2011.  

The opening concert took place in the concert hall GORS. The festival to last until June, 7th with St. Petersburg Folk Orchestra. 

Exhibitions, concerts, various master classes, street celebrations and literary evenings are included in the Festival's program. The opening of the Russian Cinema Week is planned for today, May 24th. 

The new postage stamp  dedicated to the genius Russian filmmaker Sergey Eisenstein  was issued for the launch of the Festival. It should be noted that he was born in Riga 120 years ago.
