Center for registering and processing data from Earth observation satellites will appear in Antarctic, IA Interfax reports. The Russian Space Systems holding is expected to open such a center in a year. It is to be put into operation at the end of next winter.

As per the Russian Space Systems, the center will become the first one in the South hemisphere entered into the unified territory-allocated informational systems.

The center will ensure quicker access of an end-user to information from space. Besides, the complex at the South Pole will enable receiving and transmitting additional volumes of information. The on-board memory of the satellites will get unburdened quicker, which, in its turn, will provide an opportunity for broader planet observations.

An end user of the space information can be at any place on the planet. The new center can be managed locally or from Russia.

The Antarctic center will be placed at the top of the hill near the Progress space station. The center will consist of two parts, which are antenna complex under a radar dome and transmitter/receiver devices installed into the container unit.
