There is no evidence of Russia’s interference into Italy’s internal politics

15.12.2017

Italian intelligence services could not find any evidence of Moscow’s alleged interference the internal politics of the country, TASS reports. Such accusations were earlier made by ex-Vice President Joe Biden. By and large, his words were not supported by any evidence.

Security services have made a presentation on this topic at the parliament committee’s meeting. They emphasized that they controlled all electoral processes very strictly everywhere where there was risk of external interference and still no traces of any interferences were found.

Briden is sure that Russia intended to influence outcome of the referendum on constitutional reorganization held last year. Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi offered to amend the constitution. The country’s population did not support these amendments and Renzi had to resign.

Briden states that Russian authorities support The League of North, which he calls nationalistic as well as The Five-Star movement. The American politician dubbed this political force populist.
Both parties reacted on Briden’s statements calling them ridiculous and evidence-free.
The preset head of the Italian government Paolo Gentiloni does not think it is necessary to develop discussions on this topic further.
