Kursk Polish organization to protect Soviet Soldiers’ graves in court

pixabay.comPolish military-memorial organization Kursk plans to sue local administration in Poland, TASS reports. The reason for taking these actions was illegal demolition of mausoleum on place of Soviet Soldiers’ graves fallen during WWII while liberating the city.

According to Jerzy Tyc heading the organization, the Polish administration simply deleted the burial site from the list of cemeteries based on uncertain archaeological researches.

It is worth reminding that the mausoleum was pulled down by Tychy city administration. All architectural elements were taken away from the graves at the beginning of September. The mausoleum cemetery was founded there at the end of WWII by Soviet soldiers. More than fifty people are buried in the mass grave.

Jerzy Tyc has commented that administration did not consider it necessary to observe all procedures stipulated by law.

This issue together with others is going to be discussed at the round table in Warsaw on 24th of November. The round table will be dedicated to the preservation of memorial sites and burial places of the Red Army officers.

Jerzy Tyc has added that Kursk will insist on conducting excavations by the Institute of National Memory in Poland and restoration of the mausoleum by the mayor of the region.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation has reported earlier, on 22nd of June, the Polish government approved of amendments to the law about decommunization implying demolition of several hundreds of monuments allegedly praising the Soviet regime. This law was signed by the head of Poland Andrzej Duda in the middle of July and is to come in force in autumn.

All documents will be eliminated within a year. Overall, there are about five hundred of such monuments in Poland, almost half of them is dedicated to the Red Army.
