Valentina Vegvari, PecsRussian Empire - Soviet Union – Russia conference took place in Pecs, Hungary. It was organized by Center for Studies of Contemporary Russia and Soviet Union, and co-organized by Pechorsky target group of Eastern and Middle Europe’s history of Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Russian Center provided informational support to the conference with participation of scientists, historians, postgraduates, master degree students and students. The main topic of the conference is revolutions and their influence on each other, in particular, events of 1917.

Opening the conference, Professor Ferenc Fisher dwelled on quotes of Zbigniew Brzezinski concerning Russia and Soviet Union and pointed out aspects of further research of Russian history for young scientists.

Director of the Center for Studies of Contemporary Russia and Soviet Union Dyord Bebeshi talked about Center’s activities, its publications on history of USSR and Russia and expressed hope that publication of the conference presentations’ collection would make a worthy contribution into research of Russian history in Hungary.

About twenty presentations encompassing history of Russia from the beginning of 18th century and until present times were made in four groups such as Russian Empire, Revolutions and Civil War, Soviet Union and Russia. Scientists, historians, postgraduate students and students from Debrecen, Szeged, Budapest and Pecs in their presentations touched upon plotted reforms of the Russian government and conducted reforms of 1801-1811 (Erzhbet Bodnar), the myth of the White movement unity during the Civil War (Balazh Lentar), Russian volunteers in the French army of 1917 – 1945 (Cristian Bene) and politics of Russia after 2001 concerning Afghanistan (Gabor Lendel), etc.

At the end of a day’s conference, there was a discussion about the presentations made.

Italian entrepreneur Marco Maggi's book, "Russian to the Bone," is now accessible for purchase in Italy and is scheduled for release in Russia in the upcoming months.
