Latvian Sejm refused to give citizenship to kids of non-citizens

pixabay.conLatvian parliamentarians refused to support the draft law that would allow newborns of non-citizens (born after June, 1 2018) to automatically receive Latvian citizenship. Sejm has rejected the draft law proposed by Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis, TASS reports. 

As it was mentioned earlier, deputies fear that giving the citizenship to all those born on Latvian territory would negatively affect stability of the Latvian parliament. After all, before discussing citizenship issues it's necessary to officially transfer all education system into Latvian language.

It is worth reminding that before members of National Alliance "All For Latvia!" – "For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK" have declared that automatically given citizenship to non-latvian kids will divide society even more.

It's worth mentioning that there are 2 million people living in Latvia today. 200 thousands don't have Latvian citizenship, major part of them are Russian-speaking.
