According to Museum Director Ian Blatchford, it is very important that visitors can get acquainted with full story of the space exploration, whereas American and European Museums exhibit mostly US technologies. He has stressed out that it is the reason why it is critical to eternalize the memory about the first man in space.

The head of museum has added that the bust will become a part of the permanent exposition and placed next to the landing section of space ship Soyuz TMA-19M, which brought British cosmonaut Tim Peake back to Earth after his space mission to International Space Station. It was installed in museum this January.

He also shared that the Science Museum started collaborating with Tsiolkovsky Space Museum in Kaluga. Thanks to this cooperation, several exhibitions about Russian cosmonauts will be held in London.

A project of setting bronze statues of Yuri Gagarin in different countries began six years ago. Dialogue of Cultures – One World Foundation is its initiator. Around forty monuments to the first cosmonaut appeared in more than thirty various states.

It is worth reminding that earlier an exposition about the first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova was arranged in the Museum of Science. Exposition was timed with Tereshkova’s anniversary. She turned 80 this year.
