Its agenda will last for two days, the main activities are scheduled for tomorrow, whereas gala events and bilateral meetings are held today. In particular, Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to meet the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.

According to Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov, this summit should be called historical. The central event of the summit is that two new countries – India and Pakistan are joining SCO. He is assured that extension of the organization would open a qualitatively new stage for its operations and would raise its image on the international arena.

A range of documents should be approved at the summit. The Heads of States will sign a declaration of Astana and the SCO convention against extremism. Overall, 11 documents are to be signed at the summit. Negotiations will be held in narrow and then broad formats. The country leaders are expected to evaluate the state of affairs in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, define its future tasks and development perspectives.
