Russkiy Mir Foundation chose best books of Russia abroad

Final stage and winners’ awarding ceremony of The Best Books of the Year competition organized by the Russian Book Publishers’ Association (ASKI) took place as a part of Red Square festival on June 5.

Members of the Association and the expert jury chose the best publishing projects of last year in different nominations. More than 600 editions published by leading as well as little known publishing houses in 2016 from more than forty regions of Russia participated in the competition, as per the Association website.

The competition has been arranged for several years in a row with assistance from Russkiy Mir Foundation. The Foundation representatives rewarded winners in nomination The Best Book of Russian language publisher abroad.

Tallinn publishing house Alexandra won in this nomination for its two-volume book titled Chronicles of Russian Cultural and Social Life in Estonia (1918-1940). The History of Russian Expat Community. Honorary diplomas in nomination The Best Book of Russian language publisher abroad were handed to Edition Manufaktur München publishing house (Munich) for preparation and publishing of the book Miguel Doura – the Painter of the Aconcagua, KPD publishing house (Tallinn) which issued the book Uncensored Stories of Estonian Book Publishing in the Soviet Period, Jerusalem publishing center Filobiblon for its book In the Books’ Gardens: Articles about Books, Magazines, Publishers and Collectors as well as Foliant publishing house (Astana) for the book The Tragedy in Semipalatinsk.

Deputy Executive Director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Sergei Shurygin handed the awards to the competition winners.

Totally, the jury rewarded more than fifteen editions. All-Russian competition The Best Books of the Year has been conducted since 1991. It discovered many new publishers’ names and publishing projects for this time. From 130 to 150 publishers of different profiles, scales and formats take part in the competition on an annual basis.
