Five Comedies screened at Russian Cinema Week in Tirana

27.03.2017

Soviet Cinema Week was held in the capital of Albania with organizational support of the Russian Embassy and National Puppet Theatre. Five Soviet movies with Albanian subtitles were presented to the audience: The Twelve Chairs, The Pokrovsky Gates, Ivan Vasilievich changes professions, Operation Y and Other Adventures of Shurik.

Minister-Counselor of Russia’s Embassy in Tirana Dmitry Kazmin opened the ceremony. He has stated in his introductory speech that these movies are pearls of Soviet Cinema saying the least of it. Kazmin has touched upon the Russian-Albanian relations and remarked with satisfaction that the interest to the Russian language and culture of the Albanians has grown lately and that collaboration between countries in the cultural and humanitarian area makes Albanians and Russians come closer together.

Considering the diplomatic relations’ break in the 60s–70s, many people in Albania failed to watch the Soviet movies. Cinema Week was to bridge that gap and managed to reach this goal successfully judging by multitude of thank-you letters sent to Russia’s Embassy after the event.

Students of Russian language courses were invited to watch the Soviet comedies screened with support of Russkiy Mir Foundation at Russia’s Embassy in Tirana.
