Pictures by court painter to Nicholas II on display in Russia

It is the first exhibition presenting works by the court painter to Nicholas II in Russia, reports TASS. The exhibition was arranged by a deputy group “Russia – Switzerland” of the Russian State Duma, Ivan Choultsé Foundation (Zurich) and the Ministry of Culture of the Samara region.

The Samara Art Museum hosts the exhibition which is named “Magic Light” and it is dated to the 2nd Russian-Swiss Forum “Day of Innovations” that starts today. Visitors to the exhibition can see 50 pictures by Ivan Choultsé and when the exposition in Samara is over, it is going to be available in other Russian towns and cities.

Ivan Choultsé’s parents came from Switzerland but the painter was born in Saint Petersburg. Ivan Choultsé (1874-1939) was taught to paint by a Russian landscape-painter Konstantin Kryzhitsky. Ivan Choultsé was called “a virtuoso of light” as he was brilliant at depicting the trick of the light. After the revolution the Choultsé family moved to Switzerland. Works by Ivan Choultsé are kept in a lot of foreign state museums and private collections.
