Mariinsky’s Recording of Parsifal Declared the Best

The Mariinsky label’s recording of Richard Wagner’s opera Parsifal has been included in the internet portal ArkivMusic.com’s list of the best classical music recordings of 2010 in the category “Opera”, the Mariinsky Theater press service reports.
Each year, ArkivMusic listens to hundred discs, reads thousands of articles, collates the opinions of thousands of music buyers and examines which new classical music recordings are in greatest demands. In line with its findings, the portal composes a list of the best classical recordings in the categories “Soloist and Orchestra”, “Instrumental Music”, “Symphony Music”, “Choral Music”, “Opera”, “Re-issue”, “DVD Classics”, “Chamber Music” and “Contemporary Music”.
In accordance with the results for 2010, the short-list includes thirty-three discs. Parsifal came first in its category. The site’s editors summed up the disc: “the most excellent sound of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and René Pape’s outstanding performance of the role of Gurnemanz make this new recording a ‘must-have’ for lovers of Wagner.”
